Hunt Companies Donates $5,000 to Support Mālama Learning Center’s Sustainability Programs

Kalaeloa, Hawai`i, Sept. 16, 2014 — Hunt Companies presented a $5,000 check to the non-profit Mālama Learning Center in support of its sustainable education programs and activities at Kapolei High School.

“The donation will allow us to provide a variety of activities that support the education of students who are eager to learn how they can live in harmony with the environment,” explains Pauline Sato, Mālama executive director. “We are looking forward to giving the students opportunities to do things they may never otherwise have the chance to do, such as creating a ‘peace’ garden at school, volunteering to support environmental groups in other communities and working in natural areas to protect rare and endangered species.”

Jose Bustamante, vice president for Hunt Companies, Hawai`i region, presented the check to Sato and approximately 40 members of Kapolei High School’s Go Green Club, whose students volunteer for environmental community service.

The Mālama Learning Center aims to promote healthy and sustainable living in an island environment by offering hands-on learning opportunities through a wide variety of programs for youth and adults. Its workshops, seminars and symposia integrate Native Hawaiian culture and tradition with cutting-edge technology and science.

Hunt is revitalizing nearly 540 acres of land in Kalaeloa (formerly Naval Air Station Barbers Point) and has invested more than $14 million to build a job center that will create more than 7,000 jobs and 4,000 homes.
